Product definition
The provision of on the job individual mentoring and coaching support and guidance to purchasing staff, particularly at more senior levels.
Deliverables
The client will be provided with:
Ongoing mentoring support regarding career planning, dealing with critical internal political issues, ‘managing the boss’, handling sensitive staff matters etc.
Ongoing coaching support regarding the identification of specific, usually unproductive, behaviour patterns and assisting the individual to redirect those behaviours towards a more productive outcome.
In the purchasing arena, it may also have a more specific meaning relating to helping individuals overcome shortfalls in knowledge and/or the practical application of that knowledge. With more senior personnel, this situation may be exacerbated if the individual in question:
- Has been the subject of rapid promotion.
- Has been allowed insufficient time to absorb and apply key areas of job related knowledge.
- Operates in a culture, which means that senior personnel who engage in visible learning experiences (especially with subordinates) will lose credibility.
