Description
This company specialises in very high precision CNC machining and supplies the aviation, auto, oil and nuclear industries with critical components. It was the first engineering company in Scotland to be awarded BS5750, (ISO 9002) and was also one of the first adopters of CNC machining techniques in the UK. It has recently gained Aerospace 9100 accreditation. Now with over half a century of experience, it has grown into one of the foremost independent CNC production facilities in the UK currently possessing 60 plus major CNC machine tools.

The Role
You will be responsible for assessing and developing sub-contractor and supplier capability across a range of engineering suppliers worldwide
- Monitor suppliers against Quality; Delivery and Price performance metrics.
- Evaluate new and audit existing suppliers using the companies existing evaluation and audit process and develop new more sophisticated measures.
- Identify non compliant processes and apply corrective actions
- Respond to both supply and quality issues at suppliers conducting root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Initiate and monitor progress on new product introduction at suppliers through initial sample approval and first production supply, utilising critical path analysis, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and similar techniques
- Implement a programme of lean production and parts supply with preferred suppliers.
- Evaluate supplier production capacity against forecast schedules and future demand. Identifying potential bottlenecks and implement corrective actions
- Identify and implement cost saving initiatives in both product and process.
- Liaise with Operations and Engineering in the resolution of technical issues.
Skills and Experience
- At least three years experience in the automotive, aerospace or similar advanced manufacturing industry in a supplier development role
- Experience of auditing suppliers quality systems and manufacturing techniques
- Practical working knowledge of supplier development techniques in an engineering and manufacturing environment
- Good negotiation and influencing skills
Qualifications
Good engineering qualification and ideally QA/QC qualification
